Biomimicry for Energy Efficient Buildings

What is Biomimicry?

“Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s time tested patterns and strategies. The goal is to create products , processes and policies that are well adapted to life on earth over the long haul. The core idea is that nature has already solved many of the problems we are grappling with. Animals, plants and microbes are the consummate engineers. After billions of years of research and development, failures are fossils and what surrounds us is the secret to survival” (Biomimicry Institute).

The Workshop

This two day hands-on workshop on Biomimicry (Limassol – 19/20 November 2016) will introduce the structured biomimetic approach to the participants who will deal with different challenges for building technologies such as:

  • Integrated design
  • Low carbon materials & Circular economy
  • Scalable refurbishment solutions
  • User oriented energy management

The participants will have the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary groups to apply the methodology and come up with concept biomimetic solutions. At the end of the second day the teams will pitch their concept to our panel of experts and the top team will win free mentoring for the development of a business idea for ClimateLaunchpad 2017.

Who is this for?

The workshop is open for:

  • Architects
  • Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services Engineers
  • Computer scientists
  • Design professionals
  • Engineering and Science Researchers
  • Engineering and design students
